How has Gila Rut changed the course of your career?
It has defined my career and lifestyle! I started my career at Gila Rut Aveda Salons in 1998, as an assistant to co-founder Keri Davis-Duffy. I was blessed to be part of a company that provided a strong advanced-education program. That foundation was the start to my skill set and success. I saw many other opportunities on the horizon and set my goals to achieve them.

I’ve had the pleasure to wear many hats along the way. In addition to building a strong clientele as a colorist, I become an educational director, followed by holding leadership and mentorship positions. Andrea Roy, or as we Rutions know her, Nooch, joined our team in 2002. She has been essential to the continued growth of our company and team. Mrs. Roy has held countless positions during her years with us: color expert, educator, manager, creative team member, mentor… and the list goes on. She’s always sharing her passion for her profession, her clients, her team, and most importantly, our company values.

Hello folks, and welcome to the first ever fashion blog from Gila Rut Aveda Salon. I’m super excited to talk fashion with you guys, but first let me start by introducing myself. My name is Mallorie, and I’m a haircutter at our Torrey Hills location. I’ve won Fashion Forward three years running—if you’re not familiar with our in-salon award ceremony, just know that we take style very seriously! (Fashion Forward is the most competitive category.) April is an exciting month for us here at Gila Rut because we are celebrating Earth Month! Every year, we partner with one local organization and one global organization in an effort to protect clean water and to be the best stewards of the Earth that we can be.

This year’s local organization is the San Diego chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, which works tirelessly to keep our beaches and coastal waters clean. We also donate to the Global Greengrants Fund, who partner with Aveda to set up clean water systems in third world countries.
