Celebrating 25 Years with Gila Rut: Susan Burchett

How did you get started coming to Gila Rut?
Right after moving from Indiana in April 1988, I opened a bank account and commented to the new accounts representative how cute her hair was. I asked her who cut her hair, and she told me Keri Davis did. She said it hadn’t been cut in a few months because she was letting it grow out. At that point, I knew how talented Keri must be if hair could look that great without so much as a trim in a few months. The bank employee also gave me the names of a couple other people in San Diego who were good with short, curly hair, but I never contacted them. I made an appointment with Keri, who I instantly loved. I never went to any other hair stylist.

Tell us about the shows!
Janette: The shows for this season were beautiful! There was so much color and texture in the clothing and it went with the hair inspiration perfect. For Friday’s show, I really wanted to create something soft but clean, so I went with a middle part and low pony with added texture around the face. How did you get started coming to Gila Rut? (a friend, family, etc)
I first met co-owner Keri Davis when she was working at another salon in San Diego where I used to get manicures. Her clients left the salon looking better than anyone else’s, so I got Keri’s name. Right about the same time, Keri and her mother opened Gila Rut, so I followed them. I remember Keri asking me what I thought about getting a neck and head massage with each cut. She wanted to know if I thought that would be “weird.” Um, no! Of course, everyone at Gila Rut still does massages 25 years … Read More
